What does a well-structured estate look like?

52 bank accounts, a shoebox full of paperwork, and a probate solicitor charging by the hour…

That is not an exaggeration. It is one of the most common situations we encounter and it is entirely avoidable.

A well-structured estate is not about having everything perfectly organised for its own sake.

It is about making sure that when the time comes, the people you love are not spending money unnecessarily just trying to work out what you had and where it was.

In practice, that means two things. As few accounts as possible while still maintaining security and diversification. And a clear, well-drafted framework in place such as the right trusts, a properly written will, and a record of your wishes that actually helps your family and your solicitor when they need it most.

Simple, but not simplistic.

That is what good estate planning looks like.
